Smugglers Cove Adventure Golf
Completed July 2019
The Project
The Smugglers Cove project capitalises on a popular trend for themed family adventure golf courses.
The 18 holes have been themed around Bournemouth’s 18th century smuggling pre-history and is inspired by actual events that took place in the 1780’s on the adjacent beach where the Pier now stands.
The course includes a lake feature and waterfall, and is operated by the Council’s Seafront Team. In 2020 the project won silver in the Large Attraction Of The Year category of the Dorset Tourism Awards.
Under construction: the Adventure Golf course occupies the site of the Waterfront IMAX building which was demolished in 2013
Background
This project was designed to provide a short to medium term (5 year) solution to occupy the site of the former Waterfront IMAX building at Pier Approach, which was demolished in 2013. Between 2014 and 2018 the site operated as an event space.
Longer term, the vision is to incorporate redevelopment of the space, linking up to the car parks behind and adjacent to the Pavilion, creating a new Cultural Quarter offer which the Bournemouth Development Company intends to bring forward upon completion of the Winter Gardens redevelopment.
Award-winning family-friendly course that will test even the most seasoned mini golf fan
